Hatchets, Chisels & Drill Bits

HATCHETS – To maintain optimal performance, it is necessary to sharpen your hatchet at a consistent 25-degree bevel angle, preserving the convex geometry crucial for both chopping and durability. Using a coarse whetstone, work the bit to remove any nicks, checking for a uniform burr along the edge before transitioning to a fine grit stone. Finally, refine the edge with a leather strop to achieve a, sharp-ready-for-use finish, ensuring the tool is cleaned and oiled to prevent rust.
 
CHISELS –  To achieve a truly professional  edge, the back of the chisel must first be flattened on a 1000-grit stone until a uniform, consistent scratch pattern is achieved across the surface. Once flat, the primary bevel should be established at 25 degrees, ensuring the bevel remains square to the sides of the tool. A micro-bevel of 30 degrees is then added for easier maintenance, honed to a 4000-grit waterstone to polish the edge (Extra Charges Applies) . The final, crucial step involves stropping on leather loaded with green compound to remove all remaining burr and achieve a mirror finish capable of paring end-grain effortlessly.
